प्रश्न:- वेदपाठ कितने प्रकार से किया जाता है?
उत्तर– वेद (ऋक्, यजु, साम और अथर्व में विभक्त 4 वेद) के मूल पाठ यथावत् सुरक्षित रहें, उनमें कभी कोई मिलावट न हो सके और न ही कोई अंश लुप्त हो जाए, इसके इसके लिए प्राचीन काल से ही ऋषियों ने इसकी पाठ-विधि का निर्धारण किया।
इनमें 3 प्रकृतिपाठ और 8 विकृतिपाठ हैं।
ये तीन प्रकृतिपाठ हैं–
1- संहितापाठ,
2- पदपाठ तथा
3- क्रमपाठ।
ये आठ विकृतिपाठ हैं
1- जटा, 2- माला, 3- शिखा, 4- रेखा, 5- ध्वज, 6- दण्ड, 7- रथ और 8- घनपाठ।

जटा माला शिखा रेखा ध्वजो दण्डो रथो घनः।
अष्टौ विकृतयः प्रोक्ताः क्रमपूर्वा महर्षिभिः॥
वेदः शिवः शिवो वेदो वेदाध्यायी सदाशिवः।
तस्मात् सर्वप्रयत्नेन वेदमेव सदा जपेत्॥
