ભગ-સૂક્ત
ઋગ્વેદ: ૭-૪૧;
प्रातरग्नि प्रातरिन्द्रं हवामहे
प्रातर्मित्रावरुणा प्रातरश्विना ।
प्रातर्भगं पूषणं ब्रह्मणस्पति
પ્રાતઃ સૌમભુત દુવેમ l.
અમે પ્રાત:કાળે અગ્નિદેવનું આવાહન કરીએ છીએ. પ્રાતઃકાળે અમે ઇન્દ્રનું આવાહન કરીએ છીએ. પ્રાતઃકાળે અમે મિત્ર અને વરુણનું આવાહન કરીએ છીએ. પ્રાતઃકાળે અમે અશ્વિનીકુમારોનું આવાહન કરીએ છીએ. અમે પ્રાતઃકાળે ભગ, પૂષા અને બહ્મણસ્પતિનું આવાહન કરીએ છીએ. પ્રાત:કાળે અમે સોમ અને રુદ્રને પણ બોલાવીએ છીએ.”
प्रातर्जितं भगमुग्रं हुवेम वयं पुत्रमदितेर्यो विधर्ता ।
आध्रश्चिद्यं मन्यमानस्तुरश्चिद्राजा चिद्यं भगं भक्षीत्याह ॥२॥
“જે (જગતને) ધારણ કરનાર છે, તે અદિતિના પુત્ર, વિજય પ્રાપ્ત કરનાર અને ઉગ્ર એવા ‘ભગદેવને અમે પ્રાત:કાળે બોલાવીએ છીએ. ભગદેવનું સ્તવન કરનાર વ્યક્તિ દારિદ્રય હોય, રોગી હોય કે રાજા હોય તોપણ તે ‘અમને સેવનીય સમૃદ્ધિ (ભગ) આપો' એમ કહે છે.
भग प्रणेतर्भग सत्यराधो भगेमां धियमुदवा ददन्नः ।
भग प्रणो जनय गोभिरधैर्भग प्र नृभिर्नुवन्तः स्याम ॥३॥
પ્રકૃષ્ટ નેતા એવા હે ભગદેવ ! તમે સત્યપૂત સમૃદ્ધિવાન છો. અમારી માગણીને પૂરી કરનાર, હે ભગદેવ ! તમે અમારી આ પ્રાર્થનાને પણ પરિપૂર્ણ કરો. હે ભગદેવ ! તમે અમને ગાયો અને અશ્વોથી સમૃદ્ધ કરો. હે ભગદેવ ! તમે અમને વીરપુરુષો થકી માનવવાન બનાવો.”
उतेदानीं भगवन्तः स्यामोत प्रपित्व उत मध्ये अह्नाम् ।
उतोदिता मघवन्त्सूर्यस्य वयं देवानां सुमतौ स्याम ॥४॥
“અમે અત્યારે ઐશ્વર્યવાન બનીએ. અમે દિવસના પૂર્વાર્ધમાં ઐશ્વર્યવાન બનીએ અને અમે દિવસના મધ્યભાગમાં પણ ઐશ્વર્યવાન બનીએ. હે ઐશ્વર્યના દેવ ભગદેવ ! સૂર્યનો ઉદય થાય ત્યારે અમે દેવોની સુમતિ અર્થાત્ કલ્યાણકારી કૃપાદૃષ્ટિમાં રહીએ.”
भग एव भगवाँर अस्तु देवास्तेन वयं भगवन्तः स्याम ।
तं त्वा भग सर्व इज्जोहवीति स नो भग पुरएता भवेह ॥५॥
“હે દેવો ! આ ભગદેવ ભગ-"ર" વાન અર્થાત્ ઐશ્વર્યવાન થાઓ અને તેમના થકી અમે પણ ઐશ્વર્યવાન બનીએ. હે ભગદેવ ! સૌ તમારું આવાહન કરે છે. હે ભગદેવ ! તમે અહીં યજ્ઞમાં) અમારા અગ્રેસર થાઓ.”
समध्वरायोषसो नमन्त दधिक्रावेव शुचये पदाय ।
अर्वाचीनं वसुविदं भगं नो रथमिवाचा वाजिन आवहन्तु ॥६॥
જેવી રીતે દધિક્રાવનુ (નામનો અશ્વ) (ક્રમિત) પવિત્ર સ્થાન પ્રત્યે જાય છે, તેવી રીતે ઉષાદેવી અમારા યજ્ઞમાં આવે. જેવી રીતે વેગવાન ઘોડાઓ રથને વહી જાય તેવી રીતે ઉષાદેવી ઐશ્વર્યવાન ભગદેવને અમારા તરફ લઈ આવે.”
अश्वावतीर्गोमतीર્ન उषासो वीरवतीः सदमुच्छन्तु भद्राः ।
घृतं दुहाना विश्वतः प्रपीता यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ।।७।।
અશ્વોવાળી, ગાયોવાળી, વીરોવાળી, કલ્યાણકારિણી, ઘી આપના. અને સર્વ રીતે પુષ્ટ થયેલી ઉષાદેવી હમેશાં અંધકારને દૂર કરો.. હે ઉપાદેવી, તમે અવિનાશી, કલ્યાણ દ્વારા અમારું હમેશાં રક્ષણ કરો."
આ એકતાલીસમું સૂક્ત છે. યજુર્વેદના ચોત્રીશમા અધ્યાયમાં મંત્ર ચોત્રીશથી ચાળીશ આ સૂક્ત વેદમાં ત્રણ સ્થાને જોવા મળે છે. ઋગ્વદના સાતમા મંડલનું સુધી આ સૂક્તના જ મંત્રો છે. અથર્વવેદના તૃતીય કાંડનું આ સોળમું સૂક્ત છે. આ સૂક્તના ઋષિ વસિષ્ઠ છે, દેવતા ભગ અને ઉષા છે. આ સૂક્તના પ્રથમ મંત્રનો છંદ ગતી છે અને બાકીના મંત્રોનો છંદ ત્રિછુપ છે. આ સૂક્તના પ્રધાન દેવતા ભગ છે, તેથી આ સૂક્તને ભગ-સૂક્ત કહેવામાં આવે છે. આ સૂક્તનું સ્વરૂપ પ્રાતઃસ્તવનનું છે, તેથી આ સૂક્તને પ્રાતઃસૂક્ત પણ કહેવામાં આવે છે. વૈદિક પરંપરાનાં અનેક ગુરુકુળોમાં આ સૂક્તનો ઉપયોગ પ્રાતઃસ્તવન તરીકે થાય છે.
निवेष्टुकामो रोगार्तो भगसूक्तं जपेत्सदा । निवेशं विशति क्षिप्रं रोगैश्च परिमुच्यते ।
(ઋકવિધાન: ૨-૩૦૬) “નિવાસસ્થાનની કામના હોય તેણે અને રોગી વ્યક્તિએ આ ભગસૂક્તનો જપ કરવો. નિવાસસ્થાનની શીધ્ર પ્રાપ્તિ થશે અને રોગમાંથી મુક્તિ
મળશે.” આમ, નિવાસપ્રાપ્તિ અને રોગમુક્તિ માટે આ સૂક્તનો જપ કરવામાં આવે છે. આ સૂક્તનું એક નામ રોગઘ્ન-સૂક્ત' પણ છે. આ સૂક્તમાં પ્રધાનતઃ “ભગદેવની સ્તુતિ કરવામાં આવી છે. દ્વાદશ આદિત્યમાં ‘ભગ’ એક આદિત્ય છે. વેદમાં ‘ભગ’ શબ્દનો અર્થ સંપત્તિ કે ઐશ્વર્ય થાય છે. ‘ભગ’ એક દેવ તરીકે સંપત્તિ કે ઐશ્વર્યના દેવ ગણાય છે.
યજુર્વેદઃ૩૪:૩૪થી ૪૦;
प्रातरग्निं प्रातरिन्, हवामहे प्रातर्मित्रावरुणा प्रातरश्विना
। प्रातर्भगं पूषणं ब्रह्मणस्पतिं प्रातः सोममुत रु, हुवेम
